Petri on “whom.”

 

Washington Post columnist Alexandra Petri wrote a clever but somewhat incoherent piece on the word “whom.”   The first link is her column as it was published.  See if you can see places where the incoherence lies, due to her not consistently following the use/ mention distinction.  The highlighted version posted here indicates where quotation marks need to go

    I enjoyed the piece. Without sounding rude, it is refreshing to hear someone speak up for the proper use of the English Language.
    I do well, not good, it is Sam and I, not me and Sam!!

    When I was in grammar school I was corrected, repeatedly. Now no one cares.
